In the Abai region, measures were taken to check readiness for the autumn-winter period of 2024 and the upcoming flood season in the spring of 2025. The inspection was attended by representatives of the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Management of the region, the Irtysh Basin Inspectorate, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as employees of the Department of Emergency Situations and local executive bodies of the Abai, Zharminsky, Kokpektinsky and Aksuat districts.
Timely implementation of preparatory measures aimed at preventing floods will significantly reduce the risk of devastating consequences in the spring. Taking into account the experience of previous years, Deputy Akim of the region Dimitri Garikov approved a plan for the engineering protection of settlements. This plan includes measures aimed at protecting the territory from possible floods and minimizing the risk of emergencies.
An important part of the inspection was the monitoring of the condition of hydraulic structures in the districts of the region. These facilities play a key role in protecting the public and infrastructure from floods, and their operability is under special attention of the services.
By November 15, 2024, utilities have been instructed to complete work on cleaning bridges and culverts to ensure the safe passage of flood waters in the spring.
