In order to prepare the civil defense system for emergency situations during the spring flood period and to work out actions to protect the population and territories during the threat of floods, the republican command and staff exercises "Spring - 2025" are being held in the Zhetysu region. As part of the exercises, practical measures are being carried out in areas with a high risk of flooding in all districts and cities. During the exercises, special attention is paid to strengthening defense facilities and preparing for flood situations. The civil defense services of the districts and the Department of Emergency Situations and engineering equipment were mobilized for the anti-flood training event, the press service of the Zhetysu region akim reports.
First Deputy Akim of the region Alibek Zhakanbayev specially visited the training camp taking place near the village of Tastobe in the Karatal district and inspected the personnel of the relevant services and engineering equipment.
For example, an evacuation point has been organized on the basis of a school in the village of Tastobe, designed for 40 places, with the possibility of expanding to 300 in the future. A canteen and a medical center are provided here to provide assistance to victims of emergencies.
Similarly, work is underway to strengthen the Karatal Riverbed near the village of Tastobe.
“Currently, work is underway to build a mound dam and strengthen the river's coastline on this site. In the event of a rise in the water level in the spring, these measures will prevent the bank from breaking and protect the village from flooding. 40 special equipment and 85 people were involved in this work. The work is close to completion,” said Igor Zhukov, deputy head of the Zhetysu region’s Emergency Situations Department.
One of the rivers that is at risk of flooding in the spring is the Mukanchi River in the Koksu district. On this day, as part of the training, work was carried out to strengthen the left bank of the river to a length of about 150 meters and restore the protective functions of the dam. Similarly, snow was removed from the yards of elderly people and mothers with many children living in the village of Balpyk Bi, Koksu district, and water pipes and drains were cleaned and put in order.
“There are 21 reception points in the Koksu district as part of flood preparedness, which can accommodate 5,150 people. "Today's training and exercises involved 28 vehicles and 84 people," said Manat Turymov, head of the Koksu district emergency department.
In this regard, emergency specialists call on residents of the region to participate in flood prevention measures by cleaning ditches and pipelines near their homes and ensuring the free passage of water. These measures will help prevent flooding and maintain the safety of residents' homes.
In total, there are 235 evacuation points in the Zhetysu region that receive residents in case of an emergency.
