The IX Asian Winter Games, which are being held in Harbin, China, are nearing their end. Representatives of short-track and alpine skiing have now completed their competitions. Short track athletes brought home 1 gold and 2 silver medals, but unfortunately the alpine skiing team could not please the fans with their victories.
Also today, speed skating and freestyle acrobatics athletes held their final competitions. On the final day of the competition, the acrobats defeated the athletes of the Chinese team, which includes the Olympic champion, and won the gold medal. They also broke the Asian record. In addition, our compatriots won 1 silver and 2 bronze medals.
The youngest athlete of the Kazakhstan team, Asylkhan Asan, will perform in freestyle acrobatics. Our 15-year-old compatriot won a silver medal in the team medley yesterday. This is Asylkhan's first medal at the international level.
"I am very happy to win a medal at the Asian Winter Games. This is my first medal in international competitions. I am grateful to my coaches who have trusted me,” Asylkhan said in an interview after the award ceremony.
Asylkhan has been doing freestyle acrobatics since he was five years old. He says that he got into this sport under the influence of his sister, because his older sister used to be professionally involved in this sport.
Our compatriot’s current goal is to accumulate points in the FIS rating and receive a license for the Winter Olympics in Italy next year.
“My biggest dream when I got into sports is to win an Olympic medal. I want to realize this dream and please the Kazakh people with a medal. Therefore, I will do my best to increase my training in the future and show high results,” says Asylkhan Asan.
