The annual winter census was attended by representatives of the Zhetysu Regional Forestry and Wildlife Territorial Inspectorate, the Okhotzooprom State Enterprise, the Institute of Zoology, and the Association for the Conservation of Biodiversity in Kazakhstan. The work was carried out on a clear, windless day by seven teams of twenty enumerators.
As a result of two days of work, it was determined that about 5.5 thousand gazelles and about 190 argali live in the territory of the national park. And the number of kulans in Altyn-Emel amounted to 3.6 heads. It should be noted that this is the largest kulan population in Kazakhstan. The steady growth of the number of ungulates allows the animals to be reintroduced to other historical habitats.
For example, last year, 87 animals were released to the "Altyn Dala", "Ile-Balkhash" reserves and the "Sozak" forest reserve.
Let us recall that the main goal of the event is to inventory the population of argali, kulan and gazelle, which are included in the Red Book of our country.
