Almaty region is taking a firm step towards strengthening its position as one of the leading tourist regions in the country. As part of the Comprehensive Plan for the Development of the Almaty Mountain Cluster for 2025–2029, large-scale changes are planned to improve infrastructure, update tourist routes and improve the quality of service. These measures will not only increase the tourist attractiveness of the region, but also open up new opportunities for the local population and give impetus to the development of small and medium-sized businesses.
Turgen and Kaskelen - new centers of family tourism
In the initial stage of the implementation of the Comprehensive Plan, priority was given to the development of the Kaskelen and Turgen gorges. Modern recreation areas, hiking trails and areas for family recreation will be built in these picturesque places. The development of these locations will not only increase the flow of tourists, but also support local entrepreneurs.
Communication and Internet in mountain regions
In order to increase the comfort and safety of tourists, communication networks will be laid in the Kaskelen and Turgen gorges. This will ensure stable mobile communication and access to high-speed Internet. This step will be very important for local residents and tourism businesses.
27 new tourist routes
The mountain routes of Almaty region will now be more accessible and safe. As part of the comprehensive plan, 27 new routes with a total length of 143 km will be equipped. Special recreation areas will be located every 5 km, which will create comfortable conditions for hiking enthusiasts. These changes will increase the popularity of the region and open up new opportunities for the development of ecotourism.
Roads and utility networks are the basis of tourism
An important part of the project is the construction of more than 26 km of new highways and the laying of electricity and water networks in mountain regions. This will not only create comfortable conditions for tourists, but also contribute to the development of business and give impetus to the economic growth of the region.
Development of ski resorts
Popular ski resorts in the Almaty region are being expanded. The complex modernization includes the Oi-Qaragai and Ak-Bulak resorts, where new trails will be built, Issyk-Kul will be improved, and the Arsha hotel will be built. These measures will make the region attractive for tourism all year round, increase the number of tourists, and create additional jobs.
Large-scale expansion of Oi-Qaragai
The Oi-Qaragai resort is expecting a large-scale expansion: its area will increase from 105 hectares to 1,000 hectares. By 2028, the number of visitors to the resort is expected to increase from 300 thousand to 850 thousand people, and the total investment will amount to 83.2 billion tenge. This project will be an important stage in the development of mountain tourism and attracting new investors.
Training of mountain guides and tour guides
To improve the quality of services in the tourism sector, programs will be launched to train professional guides and tour guides. Local residents will also have the opportunity to master in-demand specialties and get a job in the hospitality industry.
Long-term prospects
The implementation of the comprehensive plan will lay a solid foundation for the long-term development of the region. Improved infrastructure, modernization of tourist facilities and attraction of investors will improve the quality of life of the local population and attract new travelers.
