During a meeting with residents of the Zhetysu district, Almaty akim Yerbolat Dossaev discussed the modernization of road and transport infrastructure and spoke about the work to improve the quality of passenger transportation.
The mayor said that last year, 29 streets in the district, totaling 21 km, underwent moderate repair, and this year, 19 km of roads on 36 streets are planned to be repaired.
In addition, as part of the current repair, 30 thousand sq. m. of road surface was renewed in 2024, and another 35 thousand sq. m. of roads will be repaired this year. Last year, as a result of the construction of a 34 km ditch system, all areas at risk of flooding in the district were eliminated.
“Last year, an inspection of the bridge over the Esentai River on Zholymbet Street revealed severe damage to concrete structures and cracks in the supports. In just 6 months, a new bridge was built, and the width of the road was expanded from 8 meters to 14 meters. The construction of the roadbed at the intersection of Seifullin Avenue and Zhansugurov Street will be completed in June 2025. "This will increase the capacity of the transport hub by 20% and significantly improve the connectivity of the Zhetysu district with other parts," said Yerbolat Dossaev.

During the meeting, the Almaty akim outlined the work being done to improve the district's public transport services. Last year, the number of buses in the city increased from 1,509 to 1,740, which allowed opening 11 new routes and strengthening 44 existing ones.
In general, this year it is planned to purchase another 800 new buses in order to increase the accessibility of city public transport.
