Work on strengthening the embankment as part of anti-flood measures was carried out near the village of Petropavl, Kargaly district.

The head of the region got acquainted with the progress of the work during his visit to the Kargaly district.

The village of Petropavl is located on the banks of the Zhaksy Kargaly River. There is also dam No. 2 one kilometer from the settlement. In order to prevent flooding during floods, work on strengthening the embankment was carried out 2,500 meters from the village.

The akim of the Zheltau rural district Azamat Rzagulov said that more than 2.5 thousand people live in Petropavl, there are more than 60 houses. Last spring, the water level in the river rose, but no water entered the village.

In the summer, water diversion works were carried out, and a dense mound of soil 1.5 meters high and 3 meters wide was built. The work has been completed.

In addition, the riverbed was cleaned. It is planned to build a five-kilometer canal from the river to fill the dam with water.

Askhat Shakharov instructed to prepare flood-fighting equipment, bags and sand.

The akim also met with local residents. They expressed their gratitude for the work done in the village of Zhezdybay this summer and the new road built. "We are building access roads to settlements throughout the region. In the future, we will repair the republican highway near Petropavlovsk. The village has great potential. First of all, its proximity to the regional center is advantageous. The village is expanding, new houses are being built. There is the necessary infrastructure here. Now, as part of flood preparedness, we are carrying out work to strengthen the coast throughout the region, repair dams, and clean riverbeds. All measures are being taken to reduce the risk of flooding and ensure the safety of residents," the akim concluded.
