The meeting of the Working Group on Anti-discrimination Legislation was held in Astana

The final meeting of the interdepartmental Working Group on anti-discrimination legislation for the current year was held in Astana.
The event was attended by Vice Minister of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aizada Kurmanova, representatives of government agencies, civil society and human rights organizations.
The main topic of the agenda was the summing up of the work done over the year. In particular, the final proposals from the members of the Working Group on further improvement of the legal system of Kazakhstan in the field of human rights protection were discussed.
During the meeting, reports from representatives of government agencies, experts and public organizations were heard. The participants discussed in detail conceptual approaches, international experience and practical aspects of the application of anti-discrimination norms in Kazakhstan.
Following the meeting, the Working Group agreed on the need to send proposals to the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan on improving anti-discrimination legislation, which introduce a clear definition of terms and types of discrimination, create mechanisms for filing and reviewing complaints, and ensure harmonization of national legislation with international standards.
