A MEMBER OF THE HOUSE OF LORDS OF GREAT BRITAIN GAVE A LECTURE TO ENU STUDENTS
Member of the House of Lords of the United Kingdom, Speaker of the Lords on Rehabilitation and Probation Mike Herman gave a lecture to students of the Eurasian National University.
Lord Mike Herman spoke about his formation as a politician, shared his impressions of Kazakhstan, thoughts on the importance of education, spoke about the legislative process in the UK, about the functions of the British parliament and much more.
"A politician's job is to improve the life of society. My job is to create and change laws, decide how our country's budget, which is formed at the expense of citizens' taxes, will be spent and, ultimately, decide how to make people's lives better," the speaker said.
A member of the British House of Lords shared his impressions during a visit to Kazakhstan.
"It is known in world history that the links between East and West were carried out through the Silk Road. The history of your country is based on the movement of people, goods and services between East and West. The Silk Road retains its importance today. Your main advantage is the ability to connect the two sides. I believe that strengthening our relations is of great importance," the lecturer stressed.
Addressing young people, Lord Mike Herman urged them to learn not only to gain knowledge, but also to be able to use it, working out the ability to think strategically and critically. He also added that the youth of Kazakhstan should have the vision and the necessary skills to make decisions that will determine the future of the country.
The guest also answered students' questions about the probation service, the potential of Central Asian countries, the UK's scientific priorities and shared tips on how to become a successful politician.
At the end of the meeting, Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and Internationalization of ENU Duman Aitmagambetov announced the decision to award member of the House of Lords of Great Britain Mike Herman the title of Honorary Professor of the L.N.Gumilev ENU.
