Kazakhstan and Iran strengthen cooperation in the field of intellectual property

On November 21, 2024, a meeting was held between the Chairman of the Committee on Intellectual Property Rights of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan Abdreeva Sh.T. and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr. Jowkar Ali Akbar. The parties discussed the possibilities of expanding cooperation in the field of intellectual property, emphasizing the strategic importance of this area for innovative and economic development.
The Iranian side expressed deep interest in establishing closer cooperation through the exchange of legislative acts and experience that contribute to ensuring intellectual property rights in the interests of business. The Iranian Ambassador noted that such cooperation plays an important role in supporting startups, innovative companies and high-tech industries of the two countries. The Iranian side also proposed to consider the possibility of concluding a bilateral agreement on cooperation in this area.
The Kazakh side confirmed its commitment to international agreements in the field of intellectual property, including the WIPO and WTO agreements, and also expressed its readiness to develop a draft bilateral agreement on cooperation on intellectual property issues.
The Iranian side also expressed interest in Kazakh educational programs on intellectual property issues, which could be useful for specialists from Iran. In response, Kazakhstan noted a joint project with WIPO, within the framework of which Maqsut Narikbayev University has launched a master's degree program in intellectual property rights and business since September this year. In addition, the possibility of participation of specialists from Iran in the WIPO Summer School, held in Kazakhstan on an annual basis, was noted.
The Committee on Intellectual Property Rights of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran agreed to continue the dialogue and outlined a plan for further joint actions.
