The XIX Republican quadathlon match meeting among pupils of sports schools in memory of Honored coach of Kazakhstan Vera Karpova is taking place in Karaganda. 160 young athletes from seven regions of the country and Astana will compete for prizes at the tournament.
– Competitions in memory of Vera Karpova are being held for the 19th time. This year, children born in 2011-2012 are participating in them – a total of 160 athletes (90 girls and 70 boys). The all–around tournament, because my mother, Vera Karpova, was engaged in it, trained children," says Dmitry Karpov, head coach of the national athletics team of the Republic of Kazakhstan. – Karaganda Athletics School is one of the strongest in the country. All Kazakhstan children's athletics championships are mainly won by athletes from the Karaganda region. This is the most popular sport.
Vera Karpova was a 19-time record holder of Kazakhstan, the winner of the USSR Championship, the European Cup and many other international tournaments. She trained the strongest all-around athletes in Kazakhstan. In 2007, she was posthumously awarded the title of "Honored Coach of the Republic of Kazakhstan" in athletics.
This is not the first time Elizaveta Koshernikova has taken part in the Vera Karpova Memorial tournament. She came from Pavlodar.
– I've been doing athletics since the first grade. I am 13 years old now. I really like athletics, there is always a chance to win. At these competitions, I already took third place in the high jump. I will advise novice athletes to achieve their goals," says the young athlete.
The quadathlon tournament includes 60–meter running, long and high jumps, and cross country (500 meters for girls and 600 meters for boys). Competitions are both personal and team.
