There are 50 colleges in the Turkestan region, of which 28 are public and 22 are private. Agriculture plays an important role in the economic development of the region. 10 colleges prepare specialists for this field. 3 more educational institutions specialize in tourism and services, and 11 in construction. There are also colleges in the field of medicine, art, humanities, pedagogy, technical and multidisciplinary fields in the region.
At the weekly meeting of the regional akim's office, measures to improve the quality of education in colleges and strengthen their technical base were discussed. Akim of Turkestan region Darkhan Satybaldy instructed the management of the Department of Education to systematize the work of educational institutions, increase the number of grants in popular specialties and optimize the state order.
– Significant budgetary funds are allocated for colleges. But does the quality of education correspond to this? Continue monitoring and analysis. For colleges with low quality of education, whose students do not attend classes, propose measures within the framework of the law. Managers who fail to perform their duties should leave their posts. Conduct an analysis of new specialties and the selection of qualified teachers. It is also necessary to develop proposals for the construction of dormitories and provision of equipment," said Darkhan Satybaldy.
According to the deputy head of the Regional Education Department Aigul Kasymbekova, 47,142 students study in colleges in the region in 75 specialties. Of these, 35,708 people study by state order, and 11,434 on a paid basis. 3,041 teachers and 214 masters of industrial training are involved in the educational process.
In the current academic year, 15,525 state-ordered places have been fully mastered. However, 260 students were expelled, including those who went on sabbatical or were drafted into the army. The FACE ID system has been implemented in 25 public colleges to control attendance.
From 2020 to 2021, 9 colleges were equipped with modern equipment worth 2.5 billion tenge within the framework of the Zhas Maman project. In 2023, 1.8 billion tenge was allocated from the regional budget to strengthen the base of 18 colleges. 700 million tenge was allocated for ongoing repairs and gasification of the heating system in 10 colleges.
Special attention is paid to the connection of theory with practice. For example, students of agronomy study the cultivation of vegetables, berries and mulberry trees, as well as their processing and sale. The colleges are developing areas of deep fish processing and IT technologies.
Every year, colleges in the region accept more than 12 thousand graduates of grades 9-11 and about 3 thousand young people from the NEET category. At the WorldSkills Kazakhstan-2024 championship, students of the Turkestan region won 2 gold, 1 silver, 4 bronze medals and 11 special medallions, lifting the region to 6th place in the team competition (in 2023 - 9th place).
