The national team of surdothekwondo trains in Karaganda. Athletes are preparing for the Asian Games, which will be held in Malaysia from December 1 to December 12.
The championship of Kazakhstan was held in May of this year. According to its results, the most trained and strong taekwondo athletes were selected. The last stage of the team's training camp before the Asian Games is now being completed.
– Today is the last training day. All athletes are ready," says Ruslan Ishchanov, President of the Republican Federation of Surdothekwondo and coach. – Out of 22 people, 12 athletes will go to this championship. This is due to the fact that the Asian Games provide only five weight categories for men and the same number for women. Ayan Abdrash, Viktor Frundin, Nurdaulet Zhakyp, Aida Makatova and Aizhamol Abdikatova will perform from the Karaganda region. We'll take the medals, that's for sure. Our competitors are Korea, Iran, China, and the Philippines. Countries where taekwondo is very developed.
Viktor Frundin, the bronze medalist of the Deaflympic Games and the World Championship, will defend the honor of the country. He will compete in the plus 87 kg weight category.
– There will be a lot of rivals, but for me, the Koreans and Iranians are the strongest. I hope that our team will win and we will bring a lot of medals," says Victor.
This year, 16 athletes of the national team took part in the World Championship. The deafthekwondo athletes won two gold, four silver and six bronze medals. This is a significant achievement and a major success for Kazakhstan, Ruslan Ishchanov believes.
The Deaflympic Games will be held in Tokyo in November 2025. Athletes will start preparing for them immediately after the Asian Games.
