Starting from July 1, 2024, salaries for employees of forest fire stations and amphibious firefighters (fire truck drivers, fire fighters, tractor drivers) have been increased by 100% of their official salary (3.3 thousand people).
This year, for the first time in the history of the country's forestry, 52.0 billion tenge was allocated for the purchase of 1,384 units of fire fighting equipment and 921 units of trailed and mounted equipment, including through leasing of 40.0 billion tenge.
In 2024, 294 cases of forest fires were registered in the forests of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which is three times less than in 2023, when the number of cases reached 810. The area covered by fires has also been reduced by three times. The average area of one fire in the belt forests of the Irtysh region was less than 0.2 hectares.
In June of this year, 7 Prejevalsky horses were first delivered from the Prague and Berlin zoos to the territory of the Altyn-Dala Reserve in the Kostanay region.
On September 21, 2024, 2 tiger specimens were successfully transported from the Netherlands Zoo to the Ile-Balkhash Reserve.
Today, about 99% of the world's saiga population is concentrated in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Previously, the number of saigas was subject to a number of depressions, and in 2003 there were only 21 thousand individuals. Thanks to a number of protective measures taken by the state and supported by public and international organizations, it was possible not only to prevent its extinction, but also to achieve a significant increase in numbers, according to the results of the spring air count in 2024, their number was already 2,833,600 individuals before the lambing (1,620,000 of the Ural population, 1,150,000 of the Betpakdal and 63 600 – Ustyurt).Thanks to all these efforts, the status of the saiga has changed from critically endangered to vulnerable on the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) Red List. This indicator is the result of many years of efforts to restore the saiga population and indicates that the measures taken are working effectively.
On September 28 of this year, a program for the reintroduction of kulans from the Altyn-Emel National Research and Production Enterprise to the Ile-Balkhash and Altyn Dala reserves began.
As part of the program, 67 kulan individuals were captured. 43 of them were transported to the Ile-Balkhash reserve to increase the number of ungulates in this region.
24 kulan specimens were transported to the Altyn Dala Reserve. This event also became a landmark, as for the first time long-distance transportation of kulans over a considerable distance was carried out, which required careful logistical preparation and ensuring comfortable conditions for animals throughout transportation.
To date, all the kulans have been successfully transported to reserves and released into an aviary for temporary detention.
