This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the South Kazakhstan socio-political newspaper, the main publication of the Turkestan region. Today, a solemn event was held in the regional center in honor of the centennial anniversary of the newspaper. The ceremony was attended by Advisor to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan — Presidential Press Secretary Berik Uali, who handed over a congratulatory letter from the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the editor-in-chief of the newspaper Abai Balazhan. A number of journalists were also awarded letters of thanks from the President.
The large-scale event was attended by Akim of the Turkestan region Darkhan Satybaldy, deputy of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alisher Satybaldiyev, deputy of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Ulasbek Sadibekov, veterans of journalism who left their mark on the history of the publication, representatives of the intelligentsia and talented journalists.
— I sincerely congratulate you on today's anniversary! The newspaper "South Kazakhstan" is one of the authoritative publications with a rich history, a well—defined direction and a wide readership. Outstanding representatives of Kazakh journalism, famous poets, writers and public figures worked and grew up here. As Akhmet Baitursynov said, "a newspaper is the eyes, ears and language of the people," and our publication, which has become a mirror of the region, adequately fulfills its mission. The newspaper actively covers the updated path of modern Turkestan, earning our respect. I wish you many readers, inspiration and sunny days! — the governor of the region said, awarding several representatives of the editorial staff. A passenger car was also presented to the newspaper.
During the event, Deputy Akim of the region Yertai Altaev awarded the newspaper's journalists with the badge "Excellent Student of the information sphere" and letters of thanks from the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The honored guests shared their good wishes.
Several events were planned in honor of the anniversary. The day before, the alley of the newspaper "South Kazakhstan" was opened in the Silk Road Park of the regional center, where representatives of the intelligentsia of the region and the editorial staff planted 100 seedlings. A scientific and practical conference "South Kazakhstan — on the wave of history" was held today, where ways of developing journalism were discussed and new ideas were presented. A photo exhibition was also organized, telling about the history of the publication. The festive meeting ended with a concert program, at which the artists of the region gave the audience a wonderful mood.
The newspaper originates from the publication "Akzhol", founded by such figures as Sultanbek Kozhanov and Turar Ryskulov. Outstanding representatives of Kazakh journalism and culture have left their mark here. Today, South Kazakhstan actively covers the policy of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and also contributes to the development of the Turkestan region. The newspaper is engaged not only in journalism, but also in the popularization of national values, which is confirmed by the holding of a traditional Kazakh wrestling tournament and a competition of young akyns.
Over the century-old history, more than 30 professionals have worked as editors of the newspaper. Among them are such outstanding personalities as Asset Tileukenov, Amirseit Aliyev, Karim Ukibayev and Anar Bakirova. Today, the newspaper, which has already published its 21,650 th issue, is considered not only the leading publication of the Southern region, but also one of the historically significant publications in Kazakhstan.
