Long-term plans for the protection of UNESCO cultural heritage in Kazakhstan were discussed in Almaty

The second meeting of the working group on the protection of the historical and cultural heritage of Kazakhstan, which is under the protection of UNESCO, was held at KazNPU named after Abai.
The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aida Balayeva.
The event was attended by deputy akims of the regions, representatives of central government agencies, members of the National Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan for UNESCO and ISESCO, as well as scientists, archaeologists and representatives of public associations.
The participants discussed draft action plans aimed at improving measures for the protection of intangible cultural and world heritage, as well as the implementation of the UNESCO international program "Memory of the World".
Aida Balayeva noted the importance of fulfilling the obligations stipulated by UNESCO Conventions. She stressed the need for coordinated work at all levels and the importance of attracting qualified experts to train personnel in the skills of identifying and developing intangible cultural heritage.
"We need to strengthen our work, first of all, to improve the skills of specialists. It is important that the training is meaningful and useful. It is urgently necessary to prepare training modules and start conducting courses at the regional and central levels," the minister said.
Rustam Muzafarov, Deputy Chairman of the National Committee for the Protection of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Kazakhstan, Gulmira Mukhtarova, Chairman of the World Heritage of Kazakhstan, and Gaziza Nurgalieva, Chairman of the National Committee for the UNESCO Memory of the World Program, presented their work plans to the participants.
The plans include professional development of specialists from local authorities and representatives of ethnocultural associations, management of World Heritage sites in Kazakhstan, inventory, research and popularization of intangible cultural heritage, as well as the preparation of new nominations.
The participants exchanged views and identified priority areas for further work.
The meeting ended with a discussion on the implementation of the proposed measures, coordination of efforts of all stakeholders and the development of a specific set of measures to protect the cultural heritage of Kazakhstan.
