Snowfall hit the metropolis on the night of January 7-8 and continued until noon. The height of the snow cover as of 12:00 reached 15 cm, in the mountainous area - 20-30 cm.
According to Deputy Akim of Almaty Beibut Shakhanov, municipal services of the city promptly started clearing streets, roads and sidewalks, snow removal work is carried out around the clock.:
- From 00:00 on January 8 to 11:00, about 15 centimeters of snow fell in the city. From 1:00 a.m., the road was sprinkled with anti-icing agents. At 4:30 a.m., we started shoveling snow from the roads to the roadsides. After that, work is underway to form shafts and load snow onto dump trucks, then export it to the appropriate landfills.
This work is carried out as a priority on the central and main streets, since more citizens drive along these roads. Then we'll move on to district-level roads, and we'll try to do it as quickly as possible.
According to generally accepted standards, main streets are cleaned for up to 3 days, and district streets for up to 7 days. As a rule, we try to do this earlier.
During the day, we employ about 500 units of snow removal equipment and more than 1,100 road workers. At night, about the same number of vehicles and people go out, but we try to mostly work at night in the absence of traffic.
The city is actively updating road snow removal equipment. Over the past 2 years, we have purchased about 140 units of new modern equipment. This work will continue this year. We will buy more modern equipment that improves the speed of work and effectively replaces manual labor. Due to this, we will improve the quality of harvesting work.
Last year, the city adopted landscaping rules, according to which landscaping passports were introduced. According to them, trade facilities and institutions are required to ensure cleanliness around their points. And this also applies to snow removal, so we urge trade facilities to actively participate in the cleaning of the city.
Given the need for a certain amount of time for snow removal, we ask our citizens to understand the temporary inconveniences, as well as to provide assistance and not park cars at the roadsides until we have cleared the snow.
