As part of a working trip to Mangystau region, Chairman of the Committee of Railway and Maritime Transport of the Ministry of Transport Zhanibek Taizhanov got acquainted with the development of the ports of Aktau and Kuryk, as well as with the operation of the terminals "Ersai" and "Sarzha". Port managers presented port development plans aimed at expanding regional and international trade.
Thus, the construction of a container hub has begun in the port of Aktau. Work is being carried out on the delivery and compaction of soil. There are more than 20 units of special equipment working at the construction site. The investor of the project is the largest Chinese port company "Port Lianyungang Group". The completion of the project is planned for the next 2025. The implementation of the project will increase the capacity to 240 thousand. TEU (container equivalents) per year. Transshipment facilities have also been upgraded here: 4 loaders and a 63-ton crane have been purchased. It is expected that dredging of the Aktau port area will begin next year.
A new grain terminal with a capacity of 1 million tons per year has been launched in the port of Kuryk. This year, 2,800 tons of barley were shipped to Iran. In May 2024, the Ersai terminal was launched, from which 153 bulky cargoes were shipped to Uzbekistan. Also, a vessel traffic management system (VTS) was introduced in the port of Kuryk to ensure the safe movement of ships. In 10 months of 2024, 4.2 million tons of cargo were transported through the port of Aktau, and transportation through the Kuryk ferry complex increased by 22% and amounted to 23,134 units. These projects strengthen Kazakhstan's position in international logistics and contribute to the development of the Trans-Caspian route.
At the end of the trip, Zhanibek Taizhanov gave a number of instructions to improve the operation of the Aktau seaport. Attention is focused on increasing the volume of grain and container transportation through seaports.
