Kazakhstan's Minister of Transport Marat Karabayev spoke about the rapid development of the transport sector and a number of important initiatives aimed at improving transit corridors and infrastructure following the bilateral meeting of the heads of government of Kazakhstan and Russia.
One of the main issues discussed at the meeting was the work of the North-South corridor, which both countries are actively developing. This route connects Belarus and Russia with Kazakhstan, and then opens the way to the South Caucasus through Turkmenistan.
In addition, our country is creating favorable conditions for Russian exporters by expanding the capabilities of the Aktau and Kuryk ports. Plans for dredging were also discussed at the Russian port of Makhachkala.
The minister also noted the prospects of the project for a new third railway checkpoint on the border with China, which will be an important step in the development of transit flows between China, Russia and Kazakhstan.
“It is impossible not to mention joint work on checkpoints. This year we will begin modernization at six checkpoints. This, of course, will increase their throughput capacity by 2 times or more. "We discussed the possibility of carrying out work on modernization simultaneously both on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan and on the territory of the Russian Federation. During this period, we discussed the development of a mechanism for working so that the stations would not be closed and could operate in a certain mode," Marat Karabayev concluded.
