The modernization of 800 school libraries has been completed in Kazakhstan, and more than 280 thousand children have gained access to updated resources. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Strengthening the material and technical base of school libraries is part of the program to modernize 1,000 rural schools.
“The state annually allocates funds to improve school infrastructure. This year, 800 school libraries were modernized as part of the modernization, and their stock was replenished with new fiction. In addition, the furniture in the libraries has been updated,” noted Roza Sembayeva, Deputy Director of the Infrastructure Development Department.
In addition, systematic work is being carried out within the framework of the “Children's Library” project to develop school libraries and increase students' interest in reading. Today, 1.6 million copies of fiction have been added to the school library fund, and the total book fund exceeds 141 million.
Special attention is also being paid to improving the skills of school librarians. In 2024, 1,775 specialists completed a special course, including 1,239 school librarians and 536 college librarians. This measure will help raise the professional level of library workers and improve the quality of their work.
