It has become a tradition in Karaganda to celebrate the holiday of welcoming spring, Mertsishor. This year, the Romanian culture festival of the same name is being held for the eleventh time. The cultural event, which unites the ethnic communities of the region, is timed to coincide with Thanksgiving Day and is dedicated to two anniversaries - the 30th anniversary of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan and the 20th anniversary of the regional Romanian society "Dacia".
The "Martsishore-2025" festival will begin on February 28 with a friendship lesson "Strength in Unity". The meeting with students will be held at Lyceum No. 2 in Karaganda.
On March 1, Thanksgiving Day, the festival organizers invite Karaganda residents and guests of the city to the Friendship House. The program is extensive: a concert, a demonstration of Romanian clothes and lifestyle, a book exhibition and a photo booth. The guest of the festival is Lenuta Georgieta, Honored Artist of the Republic of Moldova. The famous Moldovan singer has been touring different countries on stage for more than a quarter of a century.
The gala concert will feature songs and dances of different peoples. The ensemble "Dorule" and other ethno-groups, as well as the exemplary choreographic ensembles "Volshebnaya strana" and "Kuanysh" will perform.
Admission to the festival is free.
The regional Romanian society "Dakia" has been operating in Karaganda since April 2005. For many years, the ethno-community was headed by Nikolai Plushkis. Now his name has been given to the "Mercishor" festival.
The ancient Mercishor holiday is celebrated in Moldova and Romania. In many ways, it is similar to Nauryz and symbolizes the beginning and renewal of spring. During the holiday, it has become a tradition to give each other boutonnieres made of white and red threads. Red symbolizes life and love, and white - purity and spirituality.
