Today, Akim of the region Serik Shapkenov met with the Ambassador of the European Union to Kazakhstan Alyosha Simkich. At the meeting, the parties discussed issues of attracting investments to the oil region, the press service of the akim of the region reports.
Alyosha Simkich thanked Serik Shapkenov for the warm welcome and discussed issues of bilateral cooperation and joint projects.
- For the first time I came to Atyrau region on an official visit. I hope this meeting will give a new impetus to our cooperation. Today, 90% of the EU's trade turnover is provided by the oil and gas sector. I consider it necessary to pay attention to the transport industry in building up trade and economic relations with the Atyrau region. At the same time, I would like to know about the possibilities of the seaport, since we are implementing a special project in this direction," A. Simkich said.
Serik Shapkenov noted that an expanded partnership and cooperation is developing between the Atyrau region and the EU, the EU is a major investor in the country's economy, and also stressed the need to work together in the further development of relations.
- There are many opportunities for further development of our multifaceted cooperation. The geographical location of Atyrau region contributes to the development of trade and economic, oil and gas and transport and logistics industries, respectively, the expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation with the EU. Evidence of investment stability in the region is the activity of 259 European entrepreneurs. Therefore, we hope for further expansion of bilateral trade and economic cooperation, to attract EU investments," Shapkenov said.
In eight months of 2024, the Atyrau region's foreign trade turnover with the European Union amounted to 15.7 billion US dollars. Exports - 15.4 billion US dollars, imports – 300 million US dollars.
