On February 19, 2025, the Chairman of the Intellectual Property Rights Committee Sh. Abdireyeva met with the Acting Head of the Economic Department of the US Embassy in Kazakhstan K. Hoffman at the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The parties discussed the main aspects of bilateral interaction and exchanged views on the further development of cooperation.
The United States highly appreciated Kazakhstan's progress in the field of protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights, in particular, noting the elevation of the status of the Department of the Ministry of Justice to the level of the Committee, which, in their opinion, indicates the special attention paid by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan to these issues.
They noted that this area plays a key role in the development of innovations and attracting investments, and also highly appreciated the steady progress of Kazakhstan, which has not been included in the control list of countries violating the "Special 301 Report" since 2006.
Sh. Abdireyeva proposed key legislative initiatives aimed at improving the intellectual property sector. Particular attention was paid to the ratification of the Marrakesh Treaty, which will improve access to education and culture for blind and partially sighted people.
He also noted the intensification of the fight against violations of rights after the lifting of the moratorium on inspections, which allowed protecting the interests of brands such as Apple, Toyota, Kit Kat, Nesquik, Procter & Gamble and Henkel AG & Co. KGaA.
The parties confirmed their mutual interest in further deepening cooperation in the field of intellectual property. Among the priority areas were noted the improvement of the skills of specialists, the exchange of best practices in the field of patent examination, the protection of copyrights and the fight against counterfeit products.
The development of cooperation between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the United States in the field of intellectual property opens up new opportunities for strengthening Kazakhstan's position as a reliable partner in the international arena.
