Two teams from the "Murager" MLI immediately won the Grand Prix and a ticket to the prestigious world tournament in robotics, winning the First Robotics Almaty Tech Cup 2025 – Central Asia FIRST Championship international competition among students in grades 1–11 (12).
The championship has been held since 2014, and during this time the number of teams has increased from 20 to 400. The competition was attended by strong teams from Azerbaijan, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, India, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and all regions of Kazakhstan.
This year, the championship combined competitions in robotics, engineering and drones, including the Aspan Cyber Race, Aspan Drone Competition, Aspan Whoop Race and Aspan Drone Race. Participants demonstrated their skills in such areas as First Lego League (4–16 years old) and First Tech Challenge (16–18 years old).
Four teams from the "Murager" specialized boarding school of Karaganda region participated in the competitions dedicated to the global problems of studying water resources and the underwater world. In the FIRST LEGO League Challenge category, the "M2T" team received the Autonomous genius award nomination, and the Rasslexx team won the Grand Prix and a ticket to the world stage in Houston (USA).
- Together with the Rasslexx team, we presented an innovative project - a GPS tracker that tracks a person falling overboard. If it happens, the tracker will signal the captain and give the exact coordinates, and the detector-camera will show where and how the fall into the water occurred, - said the school mentor Zhanadil Shakarim, who led the students to the championship.
The competition of FTC robots in the FIRST Tech Challenge category was heated. But the school's Jeltoqsun team, in addition to the Inspire award and Winning alliance partner award nominations, also qualified for the world stage in Houston.
- Our team had an innovative project that was the best in all the jury's assessment criteria, - says Zhanadil Shakarim. - The peculiarity of our project is not only in the robot itself, but also in the competently written codes, thanks to which it consistently performed its missions. According to one task, our robots had to go around the map and complete 15 missions in two and a half minutes. Here, the results of our team were among the top three.
In addition, the school was awarded the Recognition award for high achievements, and 11th graders Ruslan Ogay and Alina Anirova received a four-year grant to study at the Kazakh-British Technical University. Now students are faced with the choice of which faculty to study at.
And the captain of the Jeltoqsun team, Akbar Ermekov, was among the twenty candidates selected from all over the world for a scholarship to study at one of the US universities.
- I have been participating in robotics competitions since the 8th grade and have already achieved great success. I participated in the Roboland competition in Karaganda, went to Almaty, Astana, and the American city of Worcester. We performed successfully everywhere and received awards. All this also helped to determine the future life path: I want to work in the IT sector, - shared Akbar Ermekov.
- Our students have made not only the school, but also our region famous with their achievements in international competitions, in which more than 3 thousand students participated, - noted Nurgazy Utebayev, director of the Murager MLI.
Kazakhstani students have repeatedly won world gold in the international arena: young engineers were recognized as the best in Geneva (2022), Singapore (2023) and Athens (2024).
