TULIPES ARE BLOOMING IN THE BOTANICAL GARDEN OF AHMET YASAUI UNIVERSITY
Tulips, the harbinger of spring and a delicate gift of nature, have begun to bloom and delight the eye with their beautiful appearance at the Botanical Garden Research Institute of Ahmet Yasaui University.
For several years, university scientists have been developing innovative technologies for propagating tulips in greenhouse conditions. These studies were carried out with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2022-2024 and received grant funding within the framework of the scientific project "Creating a collection of tulip starting materials in Kazakhstan, developing and implementing innovative technologies for the reproduction and cultivation of exclusive species and varieties."
The main goal of the project is to introduce promising, domesticated species and varieties of tulips into production, form a collection of starting materials for selection work, and develop the floriculture industry of Kazakhstan.
Despite the successful completion of the project, floriculture work continues in the university garden. The greenhouse, which initially housed 3 thousand tulips, has now significantly increased in size, and this year 8 thousand tulip bulbs imported from Holland were planted. Currently, 14 different varieties of tulips are grown in the greenhouse, including such unique varieties as: Ace of Spades, Barcelona Blanca, Bullit, Crème Fraich, Crisco, Jumbo Beauty, Lady Bell, Pink Stone, Rebellious Yellow, San Luiz, Showroom, Strong Gold, Triple A, Strong Love.
According to the annual tradition, tulips grown in the botanical garden are presented as gifts to veteran teachers and partners of the university during the March holidays. In addition, work is underway to commercialize the flowers and put them on sale.
Scientists of Akhmet Yassawi University will continue to contribute to the development of Kazakhstan's floriculture by further improving tulip cultivation and research.
