Kazakhstan has launched a pilot project called “Digital Nomad Residency” that will open up new opportunities for foreign IT professionals. The program aims to attract global IT talent to work and permanently reside in the country, becoming part of its rapidly developing digital economy.
The “Digital Nomad Residency” program is aimed at attracting foreign professionals working in the IT sector. It offers a simplified way to obtain a permanent residence permit in Kazakhstan.
In the presence of a personal identification number (PIN) and an electronic digital signature (EDS), a foreign IT professional applies to the Astana Hub portal to receive an application from the relevant state body for compliance with the list of popular specialties. The candidate must provide a copy of his/her foreign passport, resume, portfolio, motivation letter, certificate of good conduct, and a 3.5*4.5 color photo. As a result, the candidate receives an application from the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry of Kazakhstan confirming his qualifications and the status of an IT specialist. After that, a foreign IT specialist must apply for the service on the eGov.kz portal for preliminary approval of obtaining a permanent residence permit.
To use the service:
- register on the eGov.kz portal and go to the "Citizens" - "Citizenship, Migration and Immigration" - "Foreigners: Entry into the Republic of Kazakhstan and Citizenship" section;
- select the service "Permanent residence permit for foreign IT specialists in the Republic of Kazakhstan" and click the "Order a service online" button;
- select the migration police department;
- attach a copy of a foreign passport (the validity of the passport at the time of application must be more than 180 calendar days), a translation certified by the consul of the foreign office of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and a 35x45 mm digital photo;
- The application for the CDIAM must be brought into line with the list of required specialties;
- attach a legalized document confirming the absence of criminal convictions in the country of citizenship and/or permanent residence issued by the competent authority of the relevant state and click the "Next" button;
- fill in the required fields;
- sign the service using an electronic signature;
- download and read the application form;
- consent to the use of information constituting a secret protected by law in information systems;
- register the downloaded and completed application form;
- submit the application;
- the results of the service will be available in the "Service History" section of the user's Personal Account.
The application review period is 45 calendar days. Then, specialists can come to Kazakhstan and complete the formalities at the offices of the Public Service Center.
