Cryptocurrencies under Control: How Kazakhstan Regulates Digital Mining

Cryptocurrencies continue to develop rapidly around the world, offering new opportunities for investors and businesses. In Kazakhstan, digital asset mining has become one of the fastest growing industries, which requires increased government regulation and control.

How does mining work? Mining is the process of mining cryptocurrencies using powerful computing systems. Special equipment performs complex mathematical calculations, confirming transactions on the blockchain and ensuring its security. As a reward, miners receive cryptocurrency.

To date, 75 miners have been officially registered in Kazakhstan. Over the past three years, tax revenues for all types of taxes from their activities have amounted to 17.7 billion tenge, including fees for digital mining — 11.6 billion tenge.

During the tax audits for 2024, violations were revealed that led to additional taxes of 4.9 billion tenge, of which: 2.3 billion tenge — payment for digital mining, 2.6 billion tenge — corporate income tax.

Also, as a result of desk control of fees for digital mining, an additional 451 million tenge was received by the budget.

In addition, cases of underestimation of income by citizens who sold cryptocurrencies have been identified. As a result, they have accrued an additional individual income tax of 4.3 billion tenge.

The State Revenue Committee continues to work to control the crypto industry at all stages — from the extraction of digital assets to their sale.
