On the eve of the professional holiday — Metallurgist's Day — the Akimat of Kostanay region hosted a solemn ceremony of awarding state and departmental awards on behalf of the Head of State to the best representatives of the mining and metallurgical industry.

The event was attended by Akim of the region Kumar Aksakalov and heads of industrial enterprises of the region.

— The mining and metallurgical industry is one of the foundations of the regional economy. It employs over 15,000 people. In the first half of 2025, products worth almost 700 billion tenge were produced. It is symbolic that in the Year of Working Professions, awards were presented on behalf of the Head of State," Kumar Aksakalov said.

The governor of the region also spoke about key projects.:

— We will implement two major projects in the coming years. The first is a hot briquetted iron (HBI) plant based on SSGPO JSC: 532 billion tenge of investments, capacity — up to 2 million tons per year, 1,000 jobs. The second is a steelmaking plant based on Caspian Steel QZ LLP: 308.4 billion tenge of investments, 1 million tons per year, 600 jobs. After reaching full capacity, they will annually bring over 60 billion tenge to the budget. This will be a new stage in the development of ferrous metallurgy in the region.
