Fourth Meeting of the Kazakhstan–Chile Friendship Society

Brasília, July 18, 2025 – In celebration of Dombra Day, the fourth meeting of the Kazakhstan–Chile Friendship Society was held online under the theme “The Voice of the Great Steppe through the Dombra.”

The event featured the participation of the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Brazil and concurrently to Chile, Bolat Nussupov; the Secretary-General of the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE) and Honorary Consul of Kazakhstan in Chile, Andrés Rebolledo; the Executive Director of the Society, Márcia Alejandra Castro Sepúlveda; professors and students from the University of Chile, as well as other members of the Friendship Society. In his speech, Ambassador Bolat Nussupov presented the latest developments in Kazakhstan within the framework of ongoing government reforms and highlighted the main aspects of Kazakh–Chilean cooperation. In this context, he pointed out the establishment earlier this year of the Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Chilean Parliament and the start of investment activities in Kazakhstan by the Chilean company ME-Elecmetal.

The Kazakh diplomat thanked the participants for their active contribution to strengthening cooperation between Kazakhstan and Chile, emphasizing the practical value of such meetings as an additional channel for bilateral and multilateral dialogue between the two countries.

 Highlights of the event included a musical performance by renowned Chilean artist María Argentina Muñoz, who played the famous kui “Akzhelen” and “Kisen Ashkan” (by Kurmangazy) on the dombra; a presentation by Francisca Carrasco on the role of the Chilean national instrument, the charango; a talk by Márcia Alejandra Castro Sepúlveda on the symbolism of the dombra as a national Kazakh instrument; and an analysis by Latin America expert Anuar Temirov, in Spanish, on the significance of the Great Steppe to the Kazakh people.

As is well known, on August 19 of this year, Kazakhstan and Chile will celebrate the 32nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The fifth meeting of the Kazakhstan–Chile Friendship Society is scheduled to take place in the summer of 2026.
