Kazakhstan and Somalia established diplomatic relations

New York, August 27, 2025 – The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Nations H.E. Mr. Kairat Umarov and the Permanent Representative of the Federal Republic of Somalia to the United Nations H.E. Mr. Abukar Dahir Osman, signed a Joint Communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Federal Republic of Somalia.
The signing of the Communiqué marks an important event, opening a new chapter in the history of bilateral relations. Kazakhstan and Somalia reaffirmed their commitment to the principles of international law and the UN Charter, respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as their intention to develop mutually beneficial cooperation both bilaterally and within multilateral frameworks.
Among the promising areas of cooperation, the parties highlighted joint efforts in sustainable development, peace and security, as well as the expansion of trade and economic ties in transport and energy, agriculture and food security, education and capacity building, digitalization and public services.
Kazakhstan and Somalia emphasized the similarity of their approaches on key international issues and reaffirmed their support for each other’s efforts at the United Nations. The establishment of diplomatic relations serves the interests of both countries, contributes to the strengthening of international peace and security, and creates a solid foundation for the development of a long-term and mutually beneficial partnership.
