Newcastle disease (pseudofowl plague or Asiatic fowl plague) is a highly contagious viral disease of birds, mainly chickens, characterized by pneumonia, encephalitis, and multiple point hemorrhagic lesions of internal organs.

Contact of people with infected birds can cause mild conjunctivitis and flu-like symptoms, but the Newcastle virus does not pose any danger to human health.

SYMPTOMS: fever, loss of appetite, depression, inactivity, conjunctivitis. Respiratory system damage - coughing, sneezing, croaking sounds, breathing with a slightly open or completely open beak. Disruption of the central nervous system - unsteady gait, tendency to move in circles, paralysis of body parts. In some cases, diarrhea may be observed, including with an admixture of blood.

Recommendations for the prevention of Newcastle disease in prosperous areas.

Do not allow contact of poultry with synanthropic (sparrows, crows, pigeons) and wild migratory birds;
Keep poultry in private households in closed conditions on their farmsteads;
Ensure isolated storage of feed in a closed room in order to prevent its contamination with excreta of wild and synanthropic birds; Purchase young poultry and hatching eggs from safe sources, refraining from purchasing live poultry at markets and unauthorized trading locations;
Keep areas and buildings for keeping animals and poultry clean; periodically (2-3 times a week) disinfect all premises and areas, first thoroughly treating equipment (scoops, brooms, tubs) with disinfectants.
Store poultry care equipment indoors;
In the event of a bird disease with the described symptoms or sudden death of a bird, do not throw away waste from their vital activity and processing in landfills; If you suspect that your bird is sick, contact your veterinarian.
