This weekend, Almaty hosted a major event: city residents traditionally celebrated City Day by visiting weekend markets. Over the course of Saturday and Sunday, 12 markets were held in six districts of Almaty, where over 300 tons of produce were sold.
Fresh meat, vegetables, fruits, sausages, honey, and other products were on sale, with over 1,000 items from 270 agricultural producers and farmers from Almaty and the Almaty region on offer. Socially significant products are especially prominent, being sold at 15-20% below market price as part of price stabilization measures.
"I've been visiting this market since 2013. I come here specifically from the Mamyr microdistrict. I like everything, the prices are reasonable," shared one city resident. For many city residents, the markets have become not only an opportunity to purchase high-quality products but also part of a tradition, celebrating the holiday in a meaningful way.
Of the 300 tons of products sold, approximately 45 tons were meat (including beef), and 210 tons were fruits and vegetables, highlighting the wide range of goods available to Almaty residents.
The fairs are held every Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM at the following addresses:
Almalinsky District - Masanchi Street (between Aiteke Bi Street and Gogolya Street);
Auezovsky District - Utegen Batyr Street (below Abay Avenue);
Bostandyk District - Kazakhfilm Microdistrict (above Al-Farabi Avenue);
Zhetysu District - Kulager Microdistrict, in front of Gulder Park;
Medeusky District - Mendikulova Boulevard - Bekturov Street.
Madeniet Microdistrict, Alatau District
Weekend markets have become an important part of city life, attracting over 40,000 people each week, many of whom come to buy fresh produce and support local producers.
The goal of these markets is to provide local farmers with the opportunity to sell their produce, including socially important goods, and to enable city residents to purchase them at affordable prices, thereby maintaining market balance and ensuring accessibility to food for all segments of the population.
