The President of Kazakhstan held a series of bilateral meetings on the margins of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly

New York, 22 September 2025 - President of the Republic of Kazakhstan H.E. Mr. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a series of bilateral meetings on the margins of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

In his meeting with President of Montenegro H.E. Mr. Jakov Milatović, the Head of State emphasized that Kazakhstan regards Montenegro as an important partner in the Balkans. Next year, the two countries will mark the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, during which time constructive ties based on friendship and mutual understanding have been forged. For his part, President Milatović expressed gratitude for Kazakhstan’s contribution to strengthening bilateral cooperation and noted the growing interest of Kazakh tourists in Montenegro. The launch of direct flights between Almaty and Podgorica, as well as the introduction of a visa-free regime for citizens of Kazakhstan, has further deepened people-to-people contacts.

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev also held talks with President of Ukraine H.E. Mr. Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The two leaders discussed prospects for economic and humanitarian cooperation. President Zelenskyy presented his views on the situation in Ukraine, while President Tokayev underscored the importance of continuing diplomatic efforts aimed at seeking ways to end the conflict and achieve lasting peace.

The Head of State further met with President of the European Council H.E. Mr. António Costa. During the talks, the parties commended the dynamic development of political dialogue, which contributes to the advancement of trade, economic, investment, and cultural-humanitarian ties between Kazakhstan and the European Union. President Tokayev reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s firm commitment to strengthening its partnership with the EU both bilaterally and within the C5+EU format. The two sides also exchanged views on pressing issues of the international and regional agenda and agreed to maintain close contacts in order to expand mutually beneficial cooperation.
