On October 3, 2025, a large-scale environmental campaign was held in Shymkent as part of the "Birgemiz Taza Alem" project and the nationwide "Taza Kazakhstan" movement. Hundreds of young volunteers, university and college students, and schoolchildren, as well as representatives of public organizations, participated in the event. The main goal of the campaign was to keep the city clean, improve the environmental situation, and instill in young people a responsible attitude toward the environment.
From early morning, participants took to the city streets to clean the courtyards of apartment buildings, playgrounds, green spaces, alleys, and pedestrian paths. Particular attention was paid to common areas and areas where trash had accumulated. Work was carried out simultaneously in all four districts of the city: Yenbekshinsky, Karatau, Al-Farabiysky, and Abaysky.
Before the event, volunteers were given gloves, trash bags, and the necessary equipment. All participants received safety instructions. Municipal service employees also joined the cleanup, providing specialized equipment for waste removal. By the end of the day, over 30 tons of household and construction waste had been collected and removed, transporting it to designated landfills.
The coordinators of the "Birgemiz Taza Alem" project noted that the event was more than just a sanitation measure, but an important step toward fostering environmental awareness among young people. Each participant understood that keeping the city clean and well-maintained is not only the responsibility of public utilities but also the responsibility of every resident.
Volunteers sorted the collected waste, separating plastic, glass, and paper for recycling. This element of the campaign is particularly important, as it promotes the culture of separate waste collection, which is gradually being implemented in Kazakhstan.
The head of the city youth resource center, speaking to the participants, emphasized:
"These events aren't just about cleaning up the neighborhood. They're a call to action. We want to remind every resident that a clean city starts in their own backyard. If everyone takes care of their surroundings, Shymkent will truly become a green and modern metropolis."
City administration representatives, entrepreneurs, and private company employees also joined the environmental campaign. They, along with volunteers, took part in cleaning the streets and parks. Afterward, participants were given informational brochures on the proper disposal of household waste and the dangers of environmental pollution.
Residents of apartment buildings also actively participated. Many came out to help the volunteers, and some provided water and refreshments to the participants. This created an atmosphere of unity and mutual support, reminding everyone that a clean city is the result of the joint efforts of all its residents.
After the cleanup was completed, small flower beds and gardens were created in several courtyards. Volunteers planted tree saplings and ornamental plants. This initiative symbolized a concern for the future—that environmental protection requires not only cleanup but also creative action.
Representatives from the city's Department of Ecology noted that such events make a significant contribution to improving the environmental situation in the region. They explained to participants the basic principles of sustainable development, the importance of reducing the use of single-use plastic, and the need to conserve natural resources.
Shymkent, as one of the country's most dynamically developing cities, is actively implementing modern approaches to waste management and environmental protection. In recent years, the city has implemented dozens of initiatives to improve its environment, plant greenery, and reduce air pollution. The "Taza Kazakhstan" campaign is part of this broader effort aimed at fostering environmental awareness and civic responsibility.
At the end of the event, all participants received letters of gratitude and souvenirs. The organizers noted that the youth's active participation was inspiring and demonstrated that the new generation is ready not only to talk about environmental issues but also to address them themselves.
The "Birgemiz Taza Alem" project is part of a national volunteer program spanning all regions of Kazakhstan. It aims to develop a culture of volunteerism, engage young people in socially significant initiatives, and promote environmental responsibility. In Shymkent, the project has received widespread support, becoming one of the most popular volunteer activities.
What made the event unique was that the youth not only cleaned up trash but also engaged in educational outreach. Volunteers spoke to passersby about the need to sort waste, conserve water, and respect green spaces. These mini-dialogues helped many residents reflect on their own habits and responsibility to nature.
City residents expressed gratitude to the young participants. They said such initiatives help unite the community, set a positive example, and raise environmental awareness. Many noted that thanks to the volunteers' efforts, the city has become cleaner, more comfortable, and more pleasant to live in.
The organizers promised that similar events would be held regularly. Plans include holding autumn and spring cleanup days, landscaping new neighborhoods, and installing waste separation containers. Furthermore, the idea of creating a city "Eco-School" for volunteers, where they could learn modern environmental management techniques, is being discussed.
Thus, the environmental campaign held on October 3rd was more than just a cleanup, but a true celebration of unity, good deeds, and caring for their hometown. It demonstrated that Shymkent's youth are active, conscientious, and ready to act for the benefit of the environment.
If initiatives like these continue to develop, Shymkent will rightfully be called the greenest and cleanest city in Kazakhstan , and the Birgemiz Taza Alem movement will become a symbol of the eco-consciousness of a new generation.
