Debrecen, October 18, 2025 - A festive concert of the Kazakh ethno-folklore ensemble “Turan” took place at the Cultural Center of Debrecen, organized with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Hungary, the State Concert Organization “Kazakhconcert” named after Roza Baglanova, the Municipality of Debrecen, and the QazTrade representative office.

The event was dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

At the opening ceremony, H.E. Mr. Abzal Saparbekuly, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Hungary, and Mr. István Puskás, Deputy Mayor of Debrecen, delivered welcoming remarks.

The Ambassador highlighted the historic significance of the Declaration of State Sovereignty, adopted 35 years ago, which laid the legal and institutional foundations of Kazakhstan’s independence. He emphasized that the Declaration not only marked the beginning of a new chapter in the nation’s modern history but also became a symbol of political maturity, unity, and the peaceful creative spirit of the Kazakh people.

In his remarks, the Deputy Mayor underlined the importance of cultural cooperation between Kazakhstan and Hungary, noting that such initiatives strengthen mutual understanding, friendship, and humanitarian ties between the two nations.

The concert became a bright highlight in the city’s cultural life. The Hungarian audience was deeply impressed by the unique sounds of traditional Kazakh instruments – the dombra, kobyz, and sybyzgy. The performance featured melodies of the Great Steppe, modern arrangements, and ethno-jazz elements, showcasing the vibrant evolution of Kazakh musical art.

The main goal of the event was to celebrate the Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan, promote Kazakh musical heritage abroad, and further deepen Kazakh–Hungarian cultural relations.

For reference: Between October 12 and 19, 2025, the “Turan” Ethno-Folklore Ensemble is holding a concert tour in Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, and Albania, introducing international audiences to the diverse and authentic world of traditional Kazakh music.

The “Turan” Ensemble is today recognized as one of the musical symbols of the Turkic world and a true gem of Kazakh culture. Over the years, the group has performed more than 600 concerts in over 70 countries, gracing such prestigious stages as Carnegie Hall (New York), Kennedy Center (Washington), Konzerthaus (Berlin), Palais des Festivals et des Congrès (Cannes), Salle Cortot (Paris), as well as the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory and the Mariinsky Theatre Concert Hall.

Founded in 2008 by the musicians themselves, the ensemble’s mission is to revive the ancient sounds of traditional Kazakh instruments and throat singing, giving them a new life and a contemporary form. Combining the spiritual depth of nomadic culture with modern artistic energy, “Turan” transforms each performance into a journey through the soul of the steppe. The ensemble consists of talented multi-instrumentalists Serik Nurmoldaev, Maksat Medeubek, Bauyrzhan Bekmukhanbetov, Erzighit Aliyev, and Zhantu Dadabayev, each mastering more than 30 traditional instruments.
