Kazakhstan Successfully Concludes its Chairmanship of the UN Asia-Pacific Group

New York, 31 October 2025 – A meeting of the Asia-Pacific Group (APG) was held at the United Nations Headquarters to review the outcomes of Kazakhstan’s Chairmanship of the Group for the month of October 2025.
In line with established UN practice, Member States assume the Chairmanship of regional groups on a monthly rotating basis. Throughout October, the Republic of Kazakhstan, as Chair of the Asia-Pacific Group, coordinated the work of the countries of the region on key issues of the UN agenda and strengthened cooperation with the Organization’s various bodies and structures.
The meeting was chaired by H.E. Mr. Kairat Umarov, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Nations, who presented an overview of the main activities and achievements accomplished under Kazakhstan’s Chairmanship.
Particular attention was devoted to the presentation and consideration of candidatures from Member States for various elective positions within the UN system. A number of candidates briefed the Group on their respective priorities and visions. The session was opened by Dr. Alikhan Baimenov, Kazakhstan’s candidate for the International Civil Service Commission (ICSC), who shared his vision for the Commission’s work and outlined key priorities in the event of his election.
In concluding its Chairmanship, the delegation of Kazakhstan expressed its deep appreciation to the countries of the region for their constructive cooperation and support, and extended its best wishes to the State of Kuwait, which will assume the Chairmanship of the Group in November 2025.
Background: The Asia-Pacific Group (APG) is one of the five regional groups of the United Nations, comprising 55 Member States of the region. The Group plays a central role in coordinating the positions of its Member States on issues considered by the General Assembly, Economic and Social Council and other UN bodies, as well as in facilitating and promoting candidatures from the region for elective positions within the UN system.
In addition to the Asia-Pacific Group, the UN structure also includes:
- African Group (GAFS);
- Eastern European Group (EEG);
- Group of Latin American and Caribbean States (GRULAC);
- Western European and Other States Group (WEOG).
