Environmental protection is an important responsibility for every person. A particularly significant area of environmental work is caring for birds, which play a key role in maintaining the natural balance. They destroy pests, spread plant seeds, and maintain a healthy ecosystem. Therefore, caring for our feathered friends is always a contribution to the future of nature and society. As part of this charitable mission, on November 1, 2025, the "Warm Nest" environmental campaign was held in Abay Park, during which 15 birdhouses were installed.
Students from Secondary School No. 68 and city volunteers actively participated in the initiative. The children personally participated in assembling and installing the birdhouses, thereby demonstrating their love of nature not only through words but also through concrete actions. The young participants learned how to properly place birdhouses, the characteristics of different bird species, their diet, and the living conditions they require. The volunteers demonstrated a tremendous commitment to helping the park's feathered inhabitants survive the cold season.
The main goal of the event was to instill in children and young people a caring attitude toward nature and environmental responsibility. Birds often face a lack of warm shelters during the autumn and winter, as well as difficulties finding food. These nesting boxes provide a safe haven where birds can escape the cold, rain, and strong winds. Furthermore, the boxes help preserve the populations of certain species threatened by the loss of their natural nesting habitats.
During the event, environmentalists and educators led children in an educational talk about the importance of each bird in nature. Participants learned about the bird species native to our region, which migrate south, and which stay for the winter. The children learned that even a small action—for example, scattering bird food—can have a huge impact on their survival. The children observed the park's birds in their natural habitat, learning to identify them by their appearance and habits.
Bird feeding was a major focus of the campaign. Volunteers installed special bird feeders so the birds could find food even during snowfalls. Participants agreed to regularly refill the feed, monitor the condition of the equipment, and repair the birdhouses if necessary. Thus, the event organizers did everything possible to ensure that their support for the birds was systemic, not limited to a one-time event.
Environmental campaigns of this format not only help nature but also foster patriotism and a caring and respectful attitude toward the natural world. Children participating in such events feel included, learn to work in a team, and show initiative. They develop the belief that nature is our common home, for which we are responsible.
The event's organizers noted that "Warm Nest" will become an annual tradition and will expand. They plan to install even more nesting boxes in different parts of the city and involve other schools and youth teams. They are also considering holding creative competitions, environmental quizzes, bird feeder-making classes, and bird study classes. These events are aimed at fostering sustainable environmental habits and promoting environmental awareness among the younger generation.
City residents who observed the children's work expressed their support for the initiative. Many parents expressed pride that their children were making a tangible contribution to environmental conservation and participating in important community projects. This instills confidence in children, broadens their horizons, and teaches them to respect the work of others for good causes.
Volunteers are confident that through joint efforts, significant results can be achieved. Each of us has the opportunity to help nature: by not littering parks, participating in tree planting, or feeding birds during the cold season. Even the smallest acts of kindness can change the world around us for the better.
The campaign demonstrated that love for nature begins with small things—with caring for the little creatures that live alongside us. If we support birds and preserve their habitats, we can preserve the beauty and harmony of the environment for future generations.
The organizers expressed gratitude to all the participants, teachers, and volunteers who contributed their labor and soul to this good cause. Their activism and compassion served as an example to others. "Warm Nest" is a symbol of humanity, love for nature, and the desire to make the world a better place.
Caring for birds is a step toward caring for all of nature. Let's continue to support such initiatives and protect our common home—planet Earth!
