On this day in 2002, Kazakhstan joined the UN International Organization for Migration!

Since 2002, there has been a strong partnership in the areas of safe and orderly migration, engagement with the diaspora, and humanitarian assistance.

On May 29, 2025, the Head of State received Amy Pope, Director General of the International Organization for Migration.

On the sidelines of the Astana International Forum, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Amy Pope, Director General of the International Organization for Migration, the UN Migration Agency.

During the meeting, they discussed cooperation on migration issues, the protection of migrants' rights, and interaction within the framework of the IOM Strategic Plan for 2024-2028. 

The Head of State said that our country is actively working to address the problems of illegal migration, combat human trafficking, and protect the rights of Kazakhstani citizens working abroad.

In turn, Amy Pope noted the importance of Kazakhstan's chairmanship of the Almaty Process in 2025-2027 as a consultative platform for promoting regional dialogue and facilitating coordinated responses to migration-related issues in Central Asia.

The parties agreed to further deepen cooperation, as well as to build institutional capacity and exchange best practices to promote sustainable migration management in the region.
