From Manuscripts to Digital Archives: New Areas of Cooperation between Kazakhstan and the UAE

Abu Dhabi, January 16, 2026 – The Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Arab Emirates, R.Zhumabek, met with Abdalla Majid Al Ali, Director General of the UAE National Library and Archives.

During the meeting, the Kazakh diplomat focused on issues related to revitalizing cooperation between the libraries and archives of the two countries, emphasizing the importance of effectively implementing previously reached agreements.

In addition, the sides discussed the possibility of holding joint events to further develop cultural and humanitarian cooperation. In this context, the Emirati side expressed its readiness to implement joint projects aimed at establishing cultural and literary corners in the libraries of Kazakhstan and the UAE, digitizing ancient manuscripts and books related to Islam preserved in the archives of both countries, as well as translating selected publications on politics, economics, literature, and traditions into Arabic and Kazakh.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan presented an invitation to the 3rd International Congress of Archivists titled “Digital Archive EXPO,” which will be held in Astana from 8 to 12 June 2026. For his part, Director General Abdalla Majid Al Ali confirmed that he would take part in the above-mentioned event.
