"Free Books" with a Dangerous Ending

The Center for Forecasting Criminal Threats and Public Security Risks of the Committee on Legal Statistics and Special Accounting of the Prosecutor General's Office is warning about a new online fraud scheme.
According to foreign sources (https://vz.ru/news/2026/1/4/1385164.html, https://www.ixbt.com/live/offtopic/mvd-predupredilo-o-vredonosnyh-zagruzkah-cherez-knizhnye-boty-v-telegram.html), scammers are distributing malicious files on Telegram under the guise of free e-books.
The scam is extremely simple: You receive a message on Telegram about access to a large library of books without restrictions.
After you request the desired edition, a bot, imitating a real service, creates a brief description of the book's plot, but instead of reading or downloading the book, it sends you a malicious file disguised as a "special application."
Installing this file can have critical consequences: theft of passwords and money, access to messages and photos, remote control of the smartphone, and loss of personal data.
It's important to remember that installing third-party apps from unofficial sources can have negative consequences.
Cyber hygiene and personal vigilance remain key measures to protect against such threats.
