Due to spring climate change following a snowy winter, we may soon face the threat of flooding in populated areas of the district. With heavy snowmelt, flooding threatens some areas of settlements, particularly private homes located in low-lying areas.
To prevent loss and damage to property and accidents, residents should take the following measures:
- Closely monitor weather reports.
- Determine the flood boundaries in the area.
- Clear the surrounding area of snow and debris.
- Clear existing drains (pipes) located in the surrounding area of snow, ice, and debris.
- Prepare a kit of essentials in case your home is cut off from the mainland.
- Move household items and food from cellars and basements to upper floors, attics, and other elevated areas, if possible. - Leave as few household items as possible in the yard, otherwise the water will carry them away. If removing items is not possible, tie them up.
- Close containers of gasoline, kerosene, and other flammable liquids securely to prevent them from tipping over or being squeezed out.
- It's best to move elderly, sick, and children to safe areas during flooding.
- Provide water pumping equipment: household electric pumps (if possible), buckets, shovels, etc.
