On February 9, 2026, an attempt to smuggle prohibited items was thwarted at the pre-trial detention center in the city of Astana.

During an inspection of a delivery, an attempt to bring prohibited items onto the territory of Institution No. 64 of the Department of the Penal System for the city of Astana was prevented.
During the inspection of the parcel via the institution's X-ray screening unit, mobile phones and SIM cards, cunningly hidden under the insoles of winter boots intended for delivery to a convict, were discovered and seized.

The fact of detection and seizure of the prohibited items was recorded by video surveillance means.
Regarding this incident, materials are being collected against the individual who delivered the package to hold them accountable in accordance with Article 481 of the Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Administrative Offenses — for attempting to bring prohibited items onto the territory of a penal system institution.

The Department of the Penal System for the city of Astana reminds that delivering or attempting to bring prohibited items into penal system institutions entails liability established by law.
