One of the major changes in the new Constitution is the establishment of the Kurultai. The draft law changes not only the name of the Parliament, but also its basic structure. Now the number of deputies will be 145, and there will be only one chamber. During the online marathon "Referendum-2026", Senator Nurlan Beknazarov spoke about the differences of the previous Parliament.
"Now the country will have a unicameral Parliament. Its name has been changed to the Kurultai. The number of deputies is clearly determined, and all of them will be formed according to party lists, that is, through a proportional electoral system. A total of 145 deputies will be elected through popular elections. This system ensures the transparency of the work of the Parliament. In addition, the parties that have passed the Kurultai will discuss their election programs, promises to the people and directions on one platform, and will actively participate in improving the country's well-being, developing the economy, and adopting important laws that determine domestic and foreign policy. Thus, fair political competition will be established between the parties. Populism will not be tolerated in such an environment," the senator said.
