The Hague, 20 February 2026 – As part of the continued expansion of academic and expert engagement, Ambassador Akan Rakhmetullin held a meeting with students of SIB-Leiden — a student association operating at Leiden University that brings together students specializing in international relations, law, and global governance. Founded in 1947, SIB-Leiden is the oldest branch of the SIB network in the Netherlands and is known for its intellectually oriented discussion formats, which provide students with the opportunity to engage directly with ambassadors and diplomatic representatives of various countries.

During the substantive dialogue, the Ambassador outlined Kazakhstan’s foreign policy priorities, the dynamics of Kazakhstan–Netherlands cooperation, and the country’s role in the regional architecture of Central Asia, as well as its engagement on multilateral platforms.

A separate segment of the discussion was devoted to the constitutional reform process in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The conceptual foundations of the draft new Constitution were presented, along with the institutional logic and key parameters of the transformation of the political system.

Leiden University, founded in 1575, is the oldest university in the Netherlands and is a member of the Coimbra Group, Europaeum, and the League of European Research Universities.
