“Ulandyk Dos”: A Trust-Based Soldier Adaptation System Introduced in the National Guard

The National Guard of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan is implementing the “Ulandyk Dos” project aimed at strengthening mutual support and combat brotherhood within the military environment. The initiative was launched at Military Unit 5573, stationed in the capital, and is already showing its first positive results in increasing the level of trust among conscript servicemen.
Under the new system, soldiers are grouped into small teams of 2 to 5 people. They serve as a source of support for one another both in service-related duties and in everyday army life, helping to resolve emerging issues and maintain moral resilience.
As the initiative has been implemented, young servicemen arriving from different regions of the country have managed to become friends and unite as a cohesive team. For example, Private Mukhamedali Kuralbek, drafted from Shymkent, and Private Daniyar Kenesov, a native of Semey, were complete strangers at first.
Mukhamedali joined the National Guard later than Daniyar. A new unit, new requirements, and the strict military routine represent a responsible stage for every soldier. During this period, Daniyar supported his fellow serviceman from the very first days and helped him adapt more quickly to the conditions of service.
After being united into one group within the framework of the “Ulandyk Dos” project, the servicemen quickly found common ground. They stand combat duty together, assist each other during combat training, and jointly carry out assigned tasks. If one is tired, the other is always ready to lend a helping hand. This mutual trust contributed to their rapid integration into the military collective.
— In our free time, we often talk and recall our native regions. I tell Daniyar about the traditions of the southern region, and he shares the особенности of the Semey area. In this way, our service partnership gradually grew into true friendship, — noted Private Mukhamedali Kuralbek.
According to the unit’s command, this approach helps commanders monitor the moral and psychological condition of personnel and promptly identify emerging issues.
It should be noted that the project is currently being implemented in a pilot format. If its effectiveness is confirmed, the “Ulandyk Dos” methodology will be introduced in all military units of the National Guard.
