The Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Malaysia informs that on 16 February 2026, the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan approved the 2026 Auction Schedule for the selection of renewable energy projects with a total installed capacity of 915 MW.
The 2026 programme includes:
- Wind Power Plants – 450 MW (Western and Northern zones);
- Solar Power Plants – 265 MW (Southern zone);
- Hydropower Plants – 200 MW (all zones).
Kazakhstan continues to strengthen its position as one of the leading renewable energy markets in Eurasia. The country possesses significant natural potential, including an estimated 920 billion kWh of annual wind potential and approximately 1 trillion kWh of solar potential, particularly in the southern regions.
Since the introduction of the competitive auction mechanism in 2018, Kazakhstan has conducted 103 auctions and selected 209 renewable energy projects, attracting investors from 13 countries.
The renewable energy support framework in Kazakhstan provides:
- Guaranteed off-take of all electricity generated;
- 20-year power purchase agreements (PPA);
- Annual tariff indexation;
- Reserved land plots and grid connection points (for scheduled auctions);
- A transparent electronic trading system operated by JSC “KOREM”.
In addition, a new format of open auctions has been introduced for certain wind and solar projects, allowing participation with a bidder’s own land plot and connection point.
The Embassy welcomes the interest of Malaysian companies in participating in Kazakhstan’s renewable energy sector and stands ready to facilitate engagement with the Ministry of Energy and the auction organizer.
Further details on the 2026 auction schedule and participation procedures are available upon request.
