Zhambyl Zhabayev was an outstanding Kazakh akyn, one of the most prominent representatives of the oral poetic tradition and a symbol of folk wisdom and spiritual continuity.

An akyn is a traditional folk poet-improviser who composes verses spontaneously, usually accompanied by the dombra, the national musical instrument. For centuries, akyns have served as guardians of historical memory, voices of public opinion, and moral guides for society.

Zhambyl Zhabayev became a vivid embodiment of this tradition. His poetry reflected the fate of the people, their struggles, hardships, and hopes. Thanks to his exceptional talent and deep connection with the culture of the steppe, he entered history as one of the most significant voices of Kazakh poetry.

On February 28, the 180th anniversary of Zhambyl Zhabayev’s birth was commemorated. His legacy remains an important part of Kazakhstan’s cultural identity and continues to inspire new generations.
