The Department of State Revenue for the Mangystau region, on the eve of the holiday season, draws the attention of residents of the region to the current customs rules when traveling outside the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The main restriction concerns the export of cash:
In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated March 14, 2022 No. 830, it is prohibited to export foreign currency in cash and (or) monetary instruments in foreign currency in an amount exceeding the equivalent of 10,000 (ten thousand) US dollars from the country.
The amount is calculated according to the official exchange rate of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the date of export. The limit applies to each individual separately, including minor children. When traveling with a family, each family member is allowed to take out no more than the equivalent of 10,000 US dollars in cash.
Important: even when filling out the passenger customs declaration, the export of an amount exceeding the specified limit is not allowed. In case of violation, the excess funds are subject to withdrawal by the customs authorities.
Cash declaration:
According to the Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Customs Regulation" (subparagraph 7 of paragraph 1 of Article 343), cash and traveler's cheques are subject to written customs declaration if their total amount during one-time export from the customs territory of the Eurasian Economic Union exceeds the equivalent of 10,000 US dollars.
However, due to Presidential Decree No. 830, export beyond the limit is prohibited regardless of the declaration.
Recommendations of the Department:
- For a comfortable stay abroad, it is preferable to use bank cards of international payment systems or non-cash transfers.
- Before traveling, check the current exchange rate of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
- Familiarize yourself with the customs regulations of the destination country (restrictions on the import of alcohol, tobacco, food, medicines and other goods).
- Personal belongings, clothing, equipment and items for personal use are exported without restrictions (in reasonable quantities, not for commercial purposes).
What is prohibited or restricted for export:
- Cultural property, antiques — only with the appropriate permit.
- Weapons, ammunition, explosives — only with a special permit.
- Rare species of animals and plants, and products made from them — without CITES permits.
- Medicines in large quantities — it is recommended to have a prescription or a doctor's certificate.
The Department of State Revenue of the Mangystau region wishes the residents of the region a pleasant and safe holiday!
