Regional exercises on response to chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats were held in Samarkand

From 28 to 30 April 2026, the regional field exercise of the “Project 106” initiative was held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, organized by the European Union Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Risk Mitigation Centres of Excellence.

The exercise was aimed at testing national and regional preparedness to respond to complex and coordinated attacks involving CBRN weapons during major public events.

Representatives of relevant agencies, emergency services, and international organizations took part in the exercise. Observers from the European Union and Central Asian countries were also present.

Representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the National Guard, and the Committee for Atomic Supervision and Control of the Atomic Energy Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan took part in the event on behalf of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

During the exercise, participants practiced interagency coordination mechanisms, emergency response cooperation, and information exchange among regional states in emergency situations.

Such exercises contribute to strengthening regional cooperation and enhancing preparedness for modern security challenges and threats.
