«MVM Group» explores opportunities for cooperation with Kazakhstan in the energy sector

Budapest, April 29, 2026 – A working meeting was held between the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Hungary Abzal Saparbekuly and the CEO of «MVM Group» Károly Mátrai. During the meeting the parties discussed prospects for expanding cooperation in the energy sector.
Key areas of interaction were also explored, including attracting investment into the gas industry, modernization of energy infrastructure, and the implementation of new joint projects. Special emphasis was placed on the potential involvement of «MVM Group» divisions in natural gas exploration, production, and processing projects in Kazakhstan.
The Ambassador highlighted the country’s favorable investment climate, emphasizing the reforms of the Government of Kazakhstan aimed at attracting foreign investment and creating a comfortable business environment. He expressed confidence that the development of cooperation between «MVM Group» and Kazakhstan would provide an additional impetus to bilateral economic relations.
The parties also discussed opportunities for the reconstruction and modernization of existing thermal power plants, including the introduction of modern cooling technologies and environmentally safe solutions. A separate topic of discussion was «MVM Group’s» experience in the construction of new combined cycle gas power plants, which makes it possible to increase generation efficiency and reduce carbon emissions by replacing coal-fired capacity.
Károly Mátrai confirmed his readiness to share advanced European experience in the development of energy markets, digitalization of the sector, and the implementation of modern technological solutions.
The meeting resulted in an agreement to further develop dialogue and explore joint investment projects that would contribute to the sustainable development of Kazakhstan’s energy sector.
